Unit 101. Mentone Court. Killarney. Johannesburg. South Africa.
Project Type: Residential – Additions & Alterations
Client: Mr & Mrs Batohi
Program: Residential – Additions and Alterations
Status: Complete – October 2016
Value: R 500,000 (US $27 000)
Area: 200m²
The project entailed a re-design of the internal spaces within an outdated, unwieldy, “tired” Killarney apartment. The client’s objective was to carry out a cost-effective reorganisation that would improve the marketability of the unit intended for sale.
Compliance with the prevailing specification set by the buildings trustees board and operating within the structural parameters of the unit, a total “opening up” was carried out. The internal corridor was completely removed and an open-plan arrangement adopted. The combined entrance, kitchen and dining areas provided a well-connected space for interaction. The 3 x bedrooms were additionally recalibrated extensively in layout, orientation and finishes. All gaining access to ensuite bathroom facilities. A new guest WC was added to the entrance to ensure privacy within the bedroom wing.
