Capturing the aura of the Zambezi riverside context in a family holiday getaway, including diverse typologies for an enhanced range of recreational activation.
A tranquil, secluded riverside spot alongside the Zambezi River in Zambia.
The brief was for the design of a holiday / weekend getaway to accommodate two families, with an expanding potential to respond to a varying visitor profiles. A range of diverse typologies was envisioned to provide a varying range of “age and stage” permutations and enhance the range of recreational family experiences.
Two family-units are set apart forming a dynamic shared common space, inclusive of a pool, a firepit and a shared outdoor covered eating area. Two fishing cabins & an allocated camping area extend the range of accommodation & functional utilization.
The collective architectural intention was to fulfil the requirements of privacy and common interaction and to do so in harmony with the indigenous framework. A ‘raw-and’real’ bush aesthetic was upheld throughout to respond to the local climatic variables (including extremities of rain and temperature fluctuations)
The design presents as a seamless, unobstructed presence within a beautiful natural context.
