In anticipation of extending the scope of operations of an existing neighbouring factory, the design and construction of a gate were prioritized as a preliminary step in securing and defining the new site.
Responding to the need for security-based regulation, the gatehouse remains a gateway, defining the threshold, facilitating and regulating access, but also seeking to establish a presence in-situ and reflect the tone of operations within.
The design of the sited gatehouse is characterized by an extensive free-standing slab spanning the full extent of the entrance, creating a distinctive and welcoming forum. Varying use of soft and hard materiality sought to generate an architectural language to harmonise with the projected masterplan within.
