The proposed home was located in Bassonia, in the South of Johannesburg, within the upmarket Bassonia Rock Estate. The brief was for a contemporary, distinctive home to accommodate an elderly mother and a single adult daughter combination, in a manner that fulfilled each one’s very specific living requirements. Furthermore, an independent home office was requested to adjoin living areas.

The project was distinguishable by the different planes of materiality and texture, serving to accentuate architectural features. Materials and textures were inspired by contextual natural surrounds. Clarity of form and a cohesive aesthetic sought to overcome the narrow and steep site constraints while maintaining fluid and client-specific functionality.
