Education Projects

Project Type:

Playstation

Holding 69. Modderfontein. Johannesburg. South Africa.

Project Type:  Education

Client: Aadil Adamjee
Program: Education
Status: Concept  – October 2019
Value: R 1 Million (US $70 000)
Area: N / A

The key directive was for a multi-sensory exploration of play within the precinct of a family garden. Guided by the professional advice / collaboration with an Occupational Therapist, the provision for play “skipped and hopped” away from the narrow imaginings of the proverbial “jungle gym” in the backyard and catapulted into a dynamic imaginarium.

The emergent sculptural compilation of play opportunities amounts to a blended integration with the landscape, offering different scales of opportunities of play. Playful in its diversity, materiality, extent, shape and size, the Playstation targets creative, connective, transformative, imaginative, sensory, gross-motor possibilities of play while maintaining an architectural sculptural undertone.

The station provides an inviting forum for solitary, parallel /  cooperative play – a true playground for the whole child, at different times, at different stages, timeless in its appeal.

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing” G.B.Shaw
