Built in the 1980’s, Tamaris Lodge consists of 15 identical 90m² two bedroom units. Our task was to ‘shake things up’ to have a mix of unit typologies which would increase the net rental yield of the block. Three major design decisions were made to achieve a more human-centric block:

  1. Demolish the private garages, add a slab with covered parking in the cold space below and create a new accessible ‘ground level’ with park, running track and swimming pool.
  2. Convert six units into twelve studio apartments – each two bedroom 90m² evolved into two 45m² studio apartments. 
  3. Covert three units into a luxury fantasy penthouse with a private roof garden and plunge pool.
